Hall of Fame Highlight Class of 2019
Love Hall of Fame Highlight Class of 2019 The Sturgis Motorcycle Museum & Hall of Fame is featuring Hall of Fame Highlights of this year’s outstanding new group of inductees. Here is a glimpse at what they had to say. For the full story join us at the 2019 Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony (tickets available below). Congratulations and welcome Terry Rymer. *Please note: Hall of Fame Highlights will be published as we receive them from the Inductees. We look forward to sharing information about all of our Inductees in the weeks and months to come. Terry Rymer Born September 1960 in Aberdeen SD and raised in a single parent home with his mother and two younger sisters, motorcycles were never on Terry Rymer’s radar. At the age of 17 Terry purchased a new 1977 Yamaha IT175 it served as both a race and road bike. That purchase made Terry a staple at the local Yamaha shop, which turned a free time hangout into a full time job in 1978. Learning motorcycle sales, parts sales, promotions, marketing, but mainly, improving great customer interaction and experiences, all of which proved to be a valuable tool for the future. Then at the age of 24, wanting more of a motorcycle racing scene, Terry packed up everything and moved to Rapid City. In 1986 things started to accelerate with Harley-Davidson and the annual Sturgis Rally. Terry’s dream was realized in 2010, after 25 years with Black Hills Harley-Davidson, from parts counter to general manager, Terry’s lifelong commitment to the dealership paid off, as his dream came true when he was made partner of Black Hills Harley-Davidson. Motorcycle racing was, and still is Terry’s passion. Particularly Flat Track. Terry has promoted or co-promoted many races throughout his career and presently owns a race team that sponsors local Sturgis rider Dawson Schieffer campaigning in the American Flat Track series. Sturgis Hall of Fame Highlight – Danny Fitzmaurice
LoveThe Sturgis Motorcycle Museum & Hall of Fame is featuring Hall of Fame Highlights of this year’s outstanding new group of inductees. Here is a glimpse at what they had to say. For the full story join us at the 2019 Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony (tickets available below). Congratulations and welcome Danny Fitzmaurice. *Please note: Hall of Fame Highlights will be published as we receive them from the Inductees. We look forward to sharing information about all of our Inductees in the weeks and months to come. Danny Fitzmaurice As an 11 year old in 1970, Dan’s neighbor Ron Helms opened a new H-D dealership. The business was small with many challenges, it did not take this kid long to figure out an opportunity to volunteer was possible. From this point on most of Dan’s life going forward will have revolved around motorcycles. He wanted to know how to develop and make more power from all the great people he would encounter. Dan worked day jobs and repaired engines at night, all to help fund more racing. As skills developed, the dream of getting a Pro license in 1981 was quickly realized, after the spring Florida Racing Series these dreams went up in smoke when Dan and racing/business partner, Dave Zehner, realized their expanding engine business was growing fast. This step led to the official formation of Zipper’s in May 1981 with Dave Zehner. They were blessed with plenty of customers building and tuning street and track engines, many for dirt and asphalt drag racing. As the U.S. economy was improving, business was growing and fans wanted to attend and ride to racetracks to see the action. Because of the continued growth of Zipper’s, commitment to our customers and staff, by 1995 Dan and Dave started to scale back racing, selectively attending events to compete in. They were lucky to race during a time of great competition and the ability to compete against and learn from some of the best in the industry. At the time they set many records and championships racing in 6 different sanctions. Today those records are long gone with progress of new machines and innovation as they should. Dan remains grateful for the impact that so many people made on his experiences of racing. Love Originally posted by Buck Lovell on Tuesday, 26 June 2012 in Buck Lovell’s – American Biker Blog CYCLE VISIONS ELIMINATOR LED TAIL LIGHT AND TURN SIGNALS KEEP YOU SAFE AND LOOK GOOD DOING IT!If you’re looking to clean up the look of the rear fender of your Harley-Davidson Dyna Glide, Cycle Visions “Eliminator” tail light slash turn signal unit is one of the best ways to get that job done, and still have legal rear fender lighting. Not only is the Cycle Visions Eliminator unit much brighter than the stock tail light, it also has a strobe effect (3-to-4 flashes) that are initiated when the brakes are applied. The strobe effect “wakes up” the drivers of following vehicles. This helps avoid rear end collisions when a following driver may not be paying attention. It is so easy to install, a caveman can do it, so I did it myself. Watch as I take less than 45 minutes to clean up the rear fender, while providing a margin of safety when riding in traffic. Thank you Cycle Visions. Cycles Vision has several different Eliminator applications including Softail and HD touring models. See you local Cycle Visions dealer or contact Cycle Visions direct at: Cycle Visions.4263 Taylor StreetSan Diego, CA 92110 (619) 295-7800 This is what the stock taillight and turn signals look like on Harley-Davidson’s 20120 Dyna Glide (last year of the Super Glide model) Remove the seat. Locate the rear fender wiring harness (tail light-turn / turn signals). Separate the plug(s) and apply dielectric grease to the metal connectors. Plug the Cycle Vision “equalizer” component in-line (between the connectors) with the rear fender wiring harness. This “load equalizer” will allow the LEDs of the Cycle Vision tail light and turn signals to operate properly with the stock electrics. Loosen the screws holding the OE tail light in place. Then unplug the turn signal input cables and the tail light input cables. Loosen the hardware and remove the OE taillight bezel. Install the Cycle Vision taillight base plate using the hardware included in the kit. Apply dielectric grease to ALL metal connectors in the rear fender wiring harness. Then plug the harness into the Cycle Visions tail light assembly and tuck the plug up into the base plate. Fit the license plate and the tail light/turn signal module onto the Cycle Visions Eliminator base plate. Tighten the four screws into the countersunk holes of the base plate from the rear. This is what you should see when you are finished. A SUPER clean tail light turn signal area, that is brighter than stock. The Eliminator also has a “flash” function that strobes the tail light 4 times when the brake are first applied. The strobe effect “wakes up” the drive of any following vehicle. VISIT THE STURGIS MOTORCYCLE MUSEUM… STURGIS RALLY 2012
Love Originally posted by Buck Lovell on Monday, 28 May 2012 in Buck Lovell’s – American Biker Blog STURGIS MOTORCYCLE MUSEUM IS GROWING May 26, 2012 – Sturgis, S.D. – The Sturgis Motorcycle Museum & Hall of Fame has signed a purchase agreement to buy land directly to the East of the current museum location. The land sale is expected to be complete in early June.”The Board of the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum has been working and planning for a long time to try to find the right way to expand the museum and offer visitors a better experience,” according to Dave Davis, Board President. “We had the opportunity to purchase this property, which will allow us to plan for expansion in our current location – right on the corner of Main Street and Junction Avenue – the absolute center of the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.” The purchase of this land is only the first step toward expanding the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum & Hall of Fame. “There’s still a long way to go before we can even break ground on an addition,” says Davis. “We will need to embark on a major fund raising campaign and spend some time considering what would be the best option for our future expansion.” The museum has been located in the old Post Office Building in Sturgis since 2002, and is excited about the potential to continue to preserve the history of downtown Main Street while still growing the museum. Davis said, “Part of the museum’s charter is to preserve the history of the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, and being right in the center of the rally action will help us to continue to meet that goal.” The mission of the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum & Hall of Fame is to collect, preserve, and interpret the history of motorcycling, honor those who have made a positive and significant impact on the sport and lifestyle, and pay tribute to the heritage of the Sturgis Rally. Established in 2001, the museum is home to an ever-growing variety of motorcycles dating back to 1907. On display are a huge selection of American and metric bikes that are on loan from private individuals, along with a wide variety of exhibits, photographs, memorabilia and Sturgis Motorcycle Rally history. Museum memberships are available on the museum’s website at www.sturgismuseum.com. Love
